Calgary’s new Central Public Library opened November 1st to a whole lot of hoopla. And it was well deserved I tell ya. This is a stunning piece of architecture and is very quickly becoming an obsession for some. Yours truly included.

Exterior on 3rd Street

The first thing you notice when you walk up to the new library is the sheer size. And then the smell…. You don’t dilly dally around outside. If you’ve been, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, well I don’t want to ruin it for you. 😀

There is still room to add to the collection

Being a library, there are books for miles and miles. But this is one of, if not THE, most impressive library I have ever been in.

The Grand Room

The interior is very rich and spacious. So many flights of stairs with so many different areas to learn and read and connect on line and offline. It’s funny how you walk up the stairs to find yourself at the top only to wonder how you got there without realizing you were climbing. Effortless.

The Red Line emerges from beneath the library.

Red Line emerges from beneath the library. It’s amazing how they incorporated the existing transit infrastructure into the architecture to make it even more spectacular! All without disruptions to service. OK I don’t know if there wasn’t any disruption to service but it would have to be minimal at any point.

Looking for the door?

This structure is massive, yet seems light as air.

Night long exposure of the C-Train

It is even more spectacular at night!

And with that, I close the book for the night. Until the next chapter. Thanks for reading…Kristina
